Paul – doom but not out
Paul told Ant and Dec that he expected to be picked for his trial Temple of Doom, in which he battled through a pitch-black, rat-infested cave to bag six stars.
When he met the hosts in a jungle clearing for his Bushtucker trial he said: “I’ve been waiting to be voted because I think the British public want to see who I am.”
When Ant told Paul he had been on the shortlist to do a trial for four days he replied: “So they get their wish.”
Paul had five minutes to search the cave, home to 11 stars and a host of nasties, in total darkness.
As he felt his way, he had to go through cobwebs and come into contact with rats and meal worms littered around the cave floor and walls.
As he felt a shower of bugs fall on him he screamed: “God this is sadistic.”
And as he moved further round more eel slime fell on his head and he screamed: “Oh Christ.”
Once outside, and covered in meal worms, slime and a persistent huntsman spider, Paul counted the six stars he’d managed to put in his bag.
But a disappointed Paul said: “It’s not good enough. No… I didn’t like it at all. It was pitch black.”
“It’s totally disorientating I didn’t know where to put my hands and what was there.”
